the story goes like this...once upon a time...

as far as i can remember, i dont think my parents have told me any bedtime stories. however, i have heard some of children stories which were told by my parents to teach me lessons...one of them is 'THE MONKEY AND THE DOLPHIN'

the story goes like this...once upon a time, there was a monkey who was drowning in the sea. a dolphin came and rescued the monkey. the dolphin soon brought the monkey to an island. then the dolphin ask
ed whether the monkey knew the island. the monkey lied to the dolphin saying that he is the king of the island. the dolphin then said that he could be king now since he is the only one creature in that particular island. then immediately the dolphin ran away from the island, leaving the monkey alone..-The End-

i like the story because the story is very simple and the events in the story is too little. it is a good point for children because children could not understand complicated story.

in that simple story, there are many elements in the story that make the story interesting.the first point is the author uses animal as the character of the story. children will be attached to the animals as they have sense of caring towards animal. then, it come to a twist ending where children could not predict that the monkey is actually lying. and one more point is that with this simple story, children could learn an important value in life which is do not tell lie.

as i mentioned before, the author uses animal as the character of the story which is attractable to children. the monkey is seen as a helpless figure while the dolphin as a helper and intelligent. as monkey lied to the dolphin, he knew and simultaneously pay off his bad behavior. children will see the dolphin as a very generous helper and the monkey as an ungrateful creature. thus, this portrayal of the characters make the story more interesting.

the plot of the story goes in traditional plot sequence where it starts from the dolphin helped the monkey and brought him to the island. the climax is when the monkey was caught lying to the dolphin. there was twist in the ending where the monkey was paid off of what he had done

overall, i think this story is really a very good story for children. in the story, the author inserted moral value in order to teach children informally. although it is not as popular as cinderella and snow white, this story have all the criteria for a good story...

  1. I was so excited reading your blog. Guess what??? I like this bedtime story too! Although it is not the one my mother read for me, still, I mark this story as one of my favourite. It has a lot of moral values, and good for children. Let's tell the story to our kids someday!
